A favour becomes a debt if there is an expectation of its return
It’s Millenium Eve and, in the middle of the New Year celebrations, Bigsy Worrel is disturbed by a phone call; a voice from the past he had hoped not to hear from again. Erroll Sheedie, a London-based drug baron, whose brother had been murdered in a gangland hit six months earlier, needs a meet. What follows is a gripping story as Bigsy is obliged to repay a favour; it is an obligation too dangerous to try to avoid.
Through the long-awaited sequel to the award-winning crime novel Flying With Kites, we also learn the fate of Katya Gjikolli, the Kosovan refugee, who had been housed in a Gateshead tower block following her harrowing escape from war-torn Kosovo.
Described by the Wishing Shelf Awards as ‘a gritty thriller’, this is a fast-paced drama set in Kosovo and Gateshead.
Readers are guaranteed to turn the pages to see what happens next.
Flying with Kites, the dramatic award-winning story about a Kosovan refugee escaping from her war-torn country and repatriated to the UK, was published in 2011 and received critical acclaim. The ending warranted a sequel and after many requests, the long-awaited follow up, The Favour, is now published. Although it would be useful to read Flying with Kite first, this is a standalone book, continuing with many of the characters portrayed in the first book. Bigsy, the uncompromising Geordie character is now owner of the video shop where he once worked. The book starts on millennium eve 1999, with a grand party at the local workingmen’s club. It’s gone midnight, and Bigsy receives a telephone call that would change his life forever, the voice from earlier in the year calling in a favour.
The book also features Katya, the Kosovan refugee, who is forced to make a decision which would affect the lives of all those close to her.
The Wishing Shelf Review calls the book - ‘A gritty thriller’. It will certainly have readers turning the pages to see what happens next as it brings the dram to its conclusion.
